Umbrellas Beach Bar was originally conceptualized to be a casual beach bar that served easy to prepare food. The main purpose of Umbrellas Beach Bar was to promote Westerhall Rum, and help to develop the brand. The parent company, Westerhall Estate Ltd lead by Graham Williams and Ian Harford partnered with Keith Bowen who was the original holder of the Land Lease on Grand Anse Beach. Keith’s mother at one time owned a small bar near the current location of Umbrellas Beach Bar. It operated under the name “The Umbrella Bar”, hence the name “Umbrellas”. After two years of legal paperwork and the final approval of the land lease, Wayne de Montbrun, originally from Trinidad migrated from Canada in search for warmer weather. He joined the team as a shared minority shareholder alongside Keith. Graham Williams, Ian Harford, Keith Bowen and Wayne de Montbrun opened the doors to Umbrellas Beach Bar in October 2010. Starting out as a dedicated Westerhall Rum bar with quick service food, it quickly became one of the most popular spots on Grand Anse Beach. Not only is Umbrellas Beach Bar the tourist hot spot, it serves as an upbeat, fun and exciting restaurant for locals and St. George’s University students. In September 2015, Umbrellas underwent a transformation and now has a fresh, more modern look. Umbrellas continues to be a very successful establishment and thank all their guests for allowing Umbrellas to celebrate their 5th Anniversary this past October. We look forward to the future years of Umbrellas Beach Bar! Our Story
